「可動間仕切り」の特許出願(特開2015-140545号)を前回紹介しました。壁面をT字型に組み合わせる構成を請求項2は以下のように記載しています。

【請求項2】

居住空間の床面に摺動可能に載置される可動間仕切りであって、
第1の壁面の途中と、第2の壁面の一端とを直角に接合させた断面T字形状を備え、
上記第1の壁面及び第2の壁面の少なくとも一方の端部に、先端パネルの一端が直角に接合されると共に、第1の壁面及び第2の壁面の表面に仕上げ材が貼着されていることを特徴とする可動間仕切り。

「第1の壁面の途中に第2の壁面の一端を接合させる」ことが記載されていますが、「第2の壁面の途中に第1の壁面を接合させる」ことはなぜ記載されていないのでしょうか?
これは同じことを意味するからです。どちらを第1の壁面と名付けるかは重要ではなく、一方の壁面の途中に他方の壁面の一端を接合させることに意味があります。第1の壁面は一方の壁面を意味し、第2の壁面は他方の壁面を意味します。

この特許出願の図15では長い方の壁面が第1の壁面として描かれていますが、短い壁面を第1の壁面、長い壁面を第2の壁面として、第1の壁面の途中に第2の壁面を接合させる構造も請求項2ではカバーしています。

In my last blog, I introduced a patent application that will be patented soon entitled “a movable partition" (Japanese Publication No. 2015-140545), which describes a structure for combining two walls in a T-shape in Claim 2.

[Claim 2]

A movable partition slidably placed on the floor of a housing space having a T-shape formed by bonding the intermediate section of a first wall surface and one end of a second wall surface perpendicularly, wherein
one end of a tip panel is bonded to at least one end of the first wall surface and the second wall surface perpendicularly, and finishing materials are adhered to the surfaces of the first wall surface and the second wall surface.

The phrase “bonding the intermediate section of a first wall surface and one end of a second wall surface perpendicularly" is stated, yet “bonding the intermediate section of a second wall surface and one end of a first wall surface perpendicularly" is not, because the former and latter phrases have the same meaning. “A first wall" means one wall surface and “a second wall" surface simply means another wall surface.

In Fig. 15 of this patent application, a longer wall surface is illustrated as the first wall surface. However, Claim 2 also covers structures such that a shorter wall surface may be specified as the first wall surface and a longer wall surface may be specified as the second wall surface, and that one end of the second wall surface is bonded to the intermediate section of the first wall surface.
