「田端プリンスホテル」(東京都北区)の名称が問題になっています。
これはあの有名な(株)プリンスホテルや西武グループとは資本関係や提携関係など関係が全くないことを、(株)プリンスホテルのウエブサイトで述べています。

「田端」は地名なので商標の識別力(商品やサービスを他者の商品やサービスと区別できる商標のユニークさ)がありません。
「プリンスホテル」は著名な商標であるため、他人の著名な商標と類似する表示として、不正競争行為になる可能性が高いです。
特許庁の検索サイトであるJ-PlatPat(https://www.j-platpat.inpit.go.jp/web/all/top/BTmTopPage#)(独立行政法人工業所有権情報・研修館)で「プリンスホテル」を検索すると、(株)プリンスホテルの「プリンスホテル」はもちろん商標登録されています(第3091064号ほか)。
「田端プリンスホテル」の商標出願が登録されない可能性は高いでしょう。「プリンスホテル」という他人の有名な登録商標と類似するからです。

The name “THE PRINCE TABATA HOTEL" (Kita-ku, Tokyo) has become a problem.

“Tabata" is a geographical name and thus has no distinctiveness (which means the uniqueness of a trademark that can distinguish its products or services from that of other entities).
There is a high possibility that using the name “THE PRINCE TABATA HOTEL" could be judged as an act of unfair competition because “PRINCE HOTEL" is a very famous trademark.
A search on the JPO website J-PlatPat* (National Center for Industrial Property Information and Training) has revealed that “PRINCE HOTEL" is, of course, registered under several trademarks (No. 3091064, etc.).
A trademark application for “THE PRINCE TABATA HOTEL" is not likely to be registered because of its similarity to the other entity's famous trademark, “PRINCE HOTEL".
