JAT(日本翻訳者協会)ケアンズが開催されます。

今年もIJATの季節がやってきました。昨年は大阪で開催され、私も登壇しましたが、今年はオーストラリアのケアンズで開かれ、スピーカーも一新されました。私の知り合いのオーストラリア在住の翻訳者、通訳者である丸岡英明氏(JAT前会長)も登壇されます。日本語に堪能な翻訳者であるNadine A. Edwardsさんもスピーカーです。
このカンファレンスのテーマは「Life, Style, and Translation - ことばを繋ぎ、未来を紡ぐ」です。
翻訳や通訳を通して国境を越えた人々がつながっています。翻訳や通訳がなければ世界中の人々が意思疎通することは不可能です。しかし忘れてはならないのは、ことばは手段であり、翻訳や通訳も手段です。人間の表情や身振り、手ぶり、声のトーンが必要であり、これらと通訳、翻訳が組み合わさって初めて意思疎通できます。
翻訳は文章であるため、感情を入れることはできませんが、激怒、称賛、祝福、喜びなどの感情を翻訳文に入れていくことは必要だと思います。特許翻訳ではこのような感情は必要なく、正確に伝えることのみが要求されます。この点が残念です。

JAT (Japanese Association of Translators) Cairns will be held from June 28 to 30.

The season for IJET has come again this year. IJET was held in Osaka last year, and I gave a speech; this year it will be held in Cairns, Australia, and new speakers have been appointed. My colleague, Hideki Maruoka (a former president of JAT) who is a Japanese translator and an interpreter in Australia, and Ms. Nadine A. Edwards who is fluent in Japanese, will be speakers.
The theme of this conference is “Life, Style, and Translation—“ Connect languages and spin the future.”

People across borders are connected through translations and interpretation. Without these, people in the world cannot interact. We should, however, bear in mind that languages are tools, and translations and interpretation are also tools. Human expression, gestures, hand gestures, and tones of voices are necessary, and these combine with translations and interpretation to contribute to human communication.
Translations consist of sentences in which emotions are not incorporated. However, emotions such as anger, appreciation, celebration, and joy should be put in translations. Patent translations do not require such emotion but require only exact information, about which I feel sorry.
