この商標のニュースが、話題を呼んでいます。
アメリカのキム・カーダシアン・ウエストさんが「KIMONO」というブランドを補正下着に付けたが、これに対して日本で猛反対(特に、京都市長はメッセージを発表)があり、キムさんがこのブランドを諦めたというニュースです。
商標登録出願もされているということで、アメリカの特許庁ウエブサイトで調べたところ、これではないかと思われる商標出願をいくつか発見しました。以下はその一つです。

キムさんは当然、「KIMONO」ブランドを付ければランジェリーは売れると判断したのでしょう。これは、アメリカでは着物が浸透しているし、愛着さえ感じられていることの象徴です。
「下着」と「着物」は一見、無関係ですが、身に着けるものでは共通している、そして日本の伝統文化である着物を「下着」と結びつける、そのアイディアには感心してしまいます(感心している場合ではありませんが)。
着物を世界に印象付けるのはよいのですが、今回の事件は、着物が下着であるという間違った認識を世界中に与えかねず、日本で伝統文化を守る人たちのためにも、このブランドをキムさんがあきらめてくれてよかったです。
正しい形で日本文化を世界に知らしめたいです。東京オリンピック2020がそのチャンスでしょう。

This trademark news is attracting public attention.
Kim Kardashian West in the U.S. planned to use the brand “KIMONO” for controlling undergarments, against which many Japanese people resisted (in particular, the mayor of Kyoto City, who made a statement).
As a result, Kim abandoned the brand.
Reportedly, trademark applications were filed, which I searched through USPTO website, and found, one of which is as follows:

Kim certainly expected that lingerie bearing the “KIMONO” brand would sell well. This means that kimono have become prevalent and even loved in U.S.
“Lingerie” and “kimono” are apparently irrelevant but have in common that they are worn on the body. I admire her idea of connecting kimono, which are part of Japanese traditional culture, with “lingerie” (although I should criticize her rather than admire her).
Making an impression with kimono around the world is preferable, but in this case, it possibly gives the wrong impression that kimono are lingerie items, so we are relieved to hear that Kim abandoned the brand.
